CAS is about developing self-awareness and personal growth. Each of your projects will allow you to demonstrate this as you address each of the seven (7) learning outcomes (LO´s), which are addressed in your ongoing reflections.

1. Increased awareness of strengths and areas for growth

  • How do the projects increase awareness of your personal character strengths?
  • How do the projects help you identify areas for personal growth and develop a plan to address those areas?

2. Undertake new challenges & develop new skills

    • A new challenge is an experience that pushes you beyond your comfort zone. For example: learning to speak in public, taking on new leadership responsibilities, learning a new language.
    • New skill development focuses on something that has not already been mastered. For example: trying a new sport or learning a new musical instrument.

3. Initiate & Plan activities

  • Projects should assure active involvement in all stages of experiential learning. For example: starting a new event, program, club or organization, reflection and adaptation based on reflection.

4. Work collaboratively with others

  • Develop an understanding of and consideration for interaction and collaboration and compromise, delegation of responsibilities among team members.

5. Show commitment & perseverance

    • Demonstrate commitment to a task by following through on what you promise to do.
    • Demonstrate through reflection, a persistent commitment to projects and how obstacles were overcome, for example, following through on time commitments even when it is a challenge or working through difficult issues or problems to keep the project alive.

6. Engage with issues of global importance

Engagement requires more than just talking about an issue. It requires action such as: creating an awareness campaign, speaking to groups, organization of and participation in events to raise awareness locally, of a global issue and direct action to meet an identified need of global importance.

7. Consider ethical implications

Thoughtful consideration of the ethical implications of decisions made and actions taken, in projects undertaken. For example: the impact of commitment to the task, the impact of how others are helped, confidentiality, etc.

NOTE: You will likely not address all LO´s in the first year, but by the end of the second year, all seven (7) must have been addressed in a meaningful way.
