Term 1

Resources you will need for this term:

This term, you should focus on understanding CAS and getting started.

  1. Start thinking about what you enjoy doing and how it might work for CAS
  2. Download the Y12 Interview guidelines and sign up for your initial interview with your Advisor.
  3. Read through the section of the guide on Procedures: Staring a Project.
  4. Start putting potential projects on Managebac.
  5. Conduct your first interview with your advisor. NOTE: This interview is student led, so you need to be prepared, based on the guide above.
  • Use the Maintaining a Project Guidelines to help you with:
    • Getting started with CAS.
    • The quantity and quality of projects.
    • The quality and regularity of reflections.

Note: There is no magical number of projects, frequency or length of reflections, but based on the guidelines provided in the Student Guide, you should:

  • be engaged in projects 3-4 hours per week
  • reflecting regularly, ideally, about every two weeks or so.
  • Reflections should briefly detail:
    • One or more specific experiences in the project.
    • Action taken.
    • What was LEARNED (think LO´s) from the experience and handling it.
    • What (s)he is gaining from the project.
  • You should have some form of reflection approximately every two weeks.

This term, your Advisor will:

    • monitor your project progress and reflection on Managebac.
    • Periodically and especially at mid-term and at the end of term, your Advisor will base your status as either:
      • Below Expectations
      • Meeting Expectations
      • Exceeding Expectations

This will be based on evidence that you have:

    • Included all required information in the project details.
    • Completed of the initial interview.
    • Demonstrated an adequate level of engagement. Three (3) to four (4) hours per week.
    • Demonstrated a consistent pattern of reflection focused on the LO`s identified.

At the end of this term, your progress toward completion of the CAS program will be evaluated based on:

  • Level of engagement
  • Reflections
  • Responsiveness to notes from your CAS Advisor or the CAS Coordinator

If the requirements are not up to expectation by the term deadline, there will be a note on Managebac and in your Tutor comments that indicates the reason and and what can be done to address it.
